In today’s post, we will focus on the conclusions of the PSI Polska report, entitled: “Readiness of Polish manufacturing companies to implement Industry 4.0 solutions“. The report was released at the end of 2019, so it’s quite up to date.
Let’s start with an explanation of the term “industry 4.0.“
The term refers to the “fourth industrial revolution”. We had the age of steam, the age of electricity, the age of computers, and finally the age of the Internet, the blurring of human/machine barrier we are in right now.
PSI Polska took a closer look at the Polish industry and its progress in implementing technologically advanced solutions.
Let us add that we will only refer to the aspects of the report that are most interesting to us, namely: implementation of innovative IT systems.
The knowledge of the concept among large companies (over 250 employees) can be described as “good” (62%). In medium-sized companies (50 – 249 employees), the knowledge of the concept is definitely weaker (only 42%).
It is also interesting that most – because more than half of the surveyed companies mentioned advanced IT technologies as the most strategic solution in the area of industry 4.0 in the first place. It is interesting because despite the knowledge that modern IT systems give an advantage in the market and are considered by most of them as strategic, the percentage of companies that have implemented such systems does not reflect their beliefs.
According to the report, 41% of medium-sized companies have not implemented any IT system. Another 42% are planning to implement and only 17% have already implemented innovative IT systems.
The situation is better in large companies, although there is still a lot of work to do. According to the report, 39% of large companies have implemented innovative IT systems. Only 38% are planning and 23% have not implemented such systems yet.
The conclusions are self-evident, although companies are aware of the importance of modern IT solutions, their activities do not translate into specific implementation activities.
There is still a lot to do and IT service providers should be aware of the potential of the domestic market.
