Reports in Salesforce give you access to your data and possibility to show it in different ways. Since Summer’21 Release you can also edit your data directly in the report. Another option to make your use of reports better suited to your needs is to change column names.
Columns’ names in reports are taken from the names of fields on the object. If we change the field name, this change will be visible on record pages for all users. If you need a new name only for the column in the report it’s better to change it only for this specific report.
In the below report we have columns ‘Billing City’ and ‘Account Number’. In order to have better clarity we can change column names to only ‘City’ and ‘Number’.
How to change column name?
Change of column name is only possible for Custom Report Types. You can create new report type in Setup under ‘Report Types’.
After creating a new report type go to ‘Edit Layout’.
Find fields that you want to change names for. If you want to change more than one field at once, use ctrl key. Then double click on the field.
In the new window you can type new field names and click ‘Ok’.
Click ‘Save’.
From now on, every report that was created using this report type, will display new names for changed columns.
